[Antithology 2025] Pinkie Pile

Pinkie Pie's Wii crashes and she dies. Made in Blender for Antithology 2025. How this was done: The studs (and everything else e.g. the hearts and character icons) are planes with an image texture. They take their images from the LEGO Star Wars sprite sheets, which you can get here: https://www.spriters-resource.com/pc_computer/legostarwarsthecompletesaga/, The planes are UV unwrapped. The UV is sized to display just one sprite from the sheet. By moving the UV coordinates around, we can change which part of the sprite sheet is displayed as the plane's texture., By using the current video frame as a driver (i.e. we get a value which increases by 1 every frame) and some maths nodes, we can multiply the frame number to jump the UV coordinates the correct distance along the sprite sheet, basically rendering a frame-by-frame animation on the plane., Now we have a bunch of planes displaying animated studs, we can make Pinkie drop them by using a particle emitter. I played with the particle settings until they exploded out and bounced similarly to the game. You can get all the particles to face the camera, no matter how they land, following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRjeQSThXkk (<< this Lance Phan guy is a genius)., Now we just add game sound effects like that annoying Wii crash noise and we're done! https://sounds.spriters-resource.com/pc_computer/legostarwarsthecompletesaga/, Notes: The green screen at the start mimics the Star Wars transition wipe into the clip., This was my first time editing video in Blender. I like it more than Vegas Pro. At the time the Compositor was clunky to work with, which made it difficult to get pleasant video effects, so that year I used Vegas Pro for my less VFXey entries. This has been improved in version 5.0. It still has a major problem with dropping frames in the preview if you're working with high res video, but oh well.
